Horse Weight
Most of us that are involved with horses generally
have the old weight tape that you can get free or very cheap
from your vets, feed stores and tack shops.
Though they are a handy tool to have around, they stretch
and tend to get lost when you need it the most!
Here's another way to weigh your horse
that I personally think is more accurate.
I generally "borrow" a tape measure from husband's tool box!

           Horse weight
It is easy to estimate the weight of a horse and tests
have shown that the results obtained this way are
accurate within 3% of actual scale weight.
              This procedure is as follows:

Step 1. Measure the circumference (heart girth) of the
body in inches (C -in fig. below).

Step 2. Measure the length of body from the point of
              the
shoulder to the point of croup (A-B in fig. above).
Step 3. Apply the following formula to calculate the
              weight of the horse:
              Heart girth x heart girth x length divided by 300 + 50
              lb. = weight

EXAMPLE: Assume that the heart girth is 70 in. and
the body length is 65 in. How much does the horse
              weigh?
              70 x70 x 65 divided by 300 + 50 = 1,111 lbs.
