Our Old Friends

I may seem old and underweight, please have another peek.
My coat is dull and dirty and I seem so very weak.

I carried you so carefully and taught you how to ride.
I remember that you learned so well and rode with so much pride.

The hugs I got and the words you said, a bond I'll never forget.
Don't you remember times we shared? The first time we ever met?

Perhaps if I whinny she'll remember this old voice.
That's the best that I can do, as I have no other choice.

Please, look over here, just inside the "killer" pen.
Don't you remember how you rode me way back when?

Oh...she's coming over here, her eyes are filled with tears.
Come with me, my olde friend, she says, it's been too many years.

I looked for you so many times, filled with such dismay.
I thought I'd never find you friend, that is until today.

Our vet will come to visit you and help us make you well.
Then my friend it's rest for you, no more work and no more hell.

I'll be with you, my oldest friend, beginning this very day.
A stall to rest, clean water too, and lots of fresh green hay.

You cared for me when I was young and you thought you were betrayed.
It's my turn now to pay you back for the kindness you displayed.

I never, ever forgot you, my dearest, oldest friend.
We're together now for life this time, until the very end.

Rainbow Bridge may take you first, but remember this my friend,
I'll be with you when it's your time and love you 'till the end.
